How to get help with Medicare costs

If you are having trouble paying for your health care you may qualify for Medicare programs that can help you save money.

Medicaid

If you struggle financially you may qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid is a program that helps with medical costs. Medicaid offers most things that Medicare offers and more like nursing home care and personal care services.

Every state has different regulations about eligibility and applying for Medicaid. Make sure to contact your state’s Medicaid office to see if you qualify and how to apply.

Medicare savings programs

If you do not qualify for Medicaid, there are four Medicare savings programs available to you.

Contact your state’s Medicaid office to see if you qualify for one of these programs.

Extra Help

Included with Medicaid and any of the Medicare savings programs you’ll have Extra Help. Extra Help is a program that helps people who are financially struggling to be able to afford Medicare prescription drug costs, premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance. If you do not automatically qualify for Extra Help, you can always apply online at socialsecurity.gov

What if I do not qualify for any help?

If you do not qualify for any of these programs you should choose the right plan for you during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period.
